Ron Minion

Founder of IFPO

Founder of IFPO – International Foundation for Protection Officers
December 28, 1938 – June 3, 2008

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Minion after his courageous battle with A.L.S. Ron had such a huge impact on everybody who was fortunate enough to come into his life. He had a presence that was larger that life and he lived his life to the fullest. He started his career in the Protection Field as an RCMP member and quickly moved into the position of Dog Master in High River, Alberta. It was there that he became passionate about two things, security and German Shepherds. He left the force and started his first security company in 1965, where he quickly became a well respected leader in the security industry. He was the first Canadian to receive the designation of Certified Protection Professional from the American Society of Industrial Security. He worked tirelessly to professionalize the security industry and to that end he established the International Foundation for Protection Officers, which is a non-profit organization that promotes a training program for line security officers, supervisors and managers. He bred and trained German Shepherds and won the highest honours in both obedience and confirmation. His accomplishments are endless, our memories are many. We love you and will miss you more than words could ever express. You are our hero now and forever. Your loving family.
